Nursery forges links with care centre

A local day nursery in Sale has forged an ongoing link with a recently opened care centre, delighting its residents with a monthly visit.

The pre-schoolers, aged two, three and four, from Kids Planet Day Nursery on Wharf Road in Sale make a monthly visit to Ashlands Manor care centre on Ashlands in Ashton-on-Mersey for an uplifting afternoon of fun and interaction with its residents.

Using props and role play, the children act out their favourite stories and nursery rhymes.  They also include the residents in memory and turn-taking games, play doh activities and sing songs that results in two hours of laughing, chatting and entertainment for all involved.

A visit to the care home links to the Early Years Foundation Stage of learning by creating strong links to personal, social and emotional development for the children and building an increased understanding of the world including respect and tolerance of others.

The nursery also makes use of the walk to the care home to talk to the children about the importance of road safety and the benefits of physical exercise and fresh air.

Nursery manager, Steph Carr, says: “It’s great to be involved with the local community and we’re delighted to be making a monthly visit to our new friends at Ashlands Manor.  It is important that the children gain an understanding of the world around them and our visits will facilitate this, helping them to gain confidence and awareness, make new friendships and manage their feelings and behaviour.  It’s such a positive experience for all involved.”

Home manager, Hayley Bebbington, adds: “Our residents enjoyed the first visit from Kids Planet so much that we agreed to make it a monthly event.  With stories, singing and fun activities, it’s a wonderful afternoon for everyone and something that never fails to make us all smile.  The children have no hesitation in helping the residents, taking their hands to help with clay modelling or helping them when they forget the words to songs, it’s lovely to see.”

Ashlands Manor is a 57 bed ‘new generation’ care facility located off Ashton Lane in Sale, between Ashlands and Queens Road.  Designed, built and operated by New Care, the development-led care home operator, Ashlands Manor offers a dedicated team who provide compassionate, person centred residential care for each and every resident, enhanced by purposeful daily activities.
