Councillor Iftikhar Chaudhri, Mayor of Runnymede, and Nick Sanderson, CEO of Audley, have officially broken ground at Audley Cooper’s Hill, the luxury retirement village in Englefield Green.
A reception marked the first step in the renovation of the grounds, formerly part of Brunel University, located within the 66 acres of the Magna Carta Park.
The village, just minutes from Egham, Surrey, will house 78 luxury two bedroom apartments for the over 60s. The new village will be the latest addition to Audley’s impressive portfolio of 15 nationwide.
Nick Sanderson, CEO, Audley Retirement, says: “The reception today marks the beginning of an exciting development for Audley. Magna Carta Park and this Victorian Gothic building are well known sites in Englefield Green, so preserving their legacy and restoring them to their former glory is key for us.
“The village has already received overwhelming levels of interest, highlighting the need for innovative and luxury retirement living options in the area. Situated just a short drive from the beautiful town of Egham and within striking distance of London, Audley Cooper’s Hill will offer high quality housing and facilities, coupled with the proximity of town life.”
Councillor Iftikhar Chaudhri, Mayor of Runnymede, says: “I am delighted to welcome Nick Sanderson and the Audley team to our community as we break ground on this new development. The redevelopment of the impressive historic building will start a new chapter for this site, and I wish the team every success over the coming months.”
Audley has instructed Balfour Beatty the full construction contract for the village following successful projects at other Audley villages.
Accessible to both owners and the neighbouring communities, Audley Cooper’s Hill will also be home to the Audley Club, offering luxurious facilities including a library, restaurant and bar, swimming pool and luxury health club.
Audley enables owners to live an independent and healthy lifestyle in their own homes, with flexible care when needed. Owners buy their apartment from Audley and own it on a 125 year lease.
Audley Cooper’s Hill will welcome its first owners in winter 2019 following the completion of the first phase of development.
