Writer and TV personality Lady Colin Campbell was guest of honour at the opening of new facilities at a Hastings care home.
Royal biographer Lady Colin, a Sussex resident, cut the ribbon to the Bluebell suite on the second floor of Hastings Court care home on The Ridge.
The 13 en-suite bedrooms have been completely refurbished together with dining and lounge areas on the floor. The suite offers accommodation for people needing residential care and is an addition to the nursing and dementia care offered elsewhere in the home.
Lady Colin, also a former ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ contestant, toured the suite with home manager, Georgina Gamble, and Hastings Court’s award-winning interiors specialist, Jacqueline Farguson.
“I decided on blues and golds for the rooms to give a calming feel and to echo the colours of the beach and the sea,” says Jacqueline. “Our surroundings are so important; they can have a huge impact on our sense of wellbeing and we’ve given a great deal of thought to what will become people’s homes.”
Lady Colin had made the journey from her home at Castle Goring in Worthing to declare the Bluebell suite open. She then spent time chatting to guests which included the Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Judy Rogers, staff and residents of the purpose-built home.
“The rooms here really are beautiful,” she remarks. “I’m immensely impressed.”
The first residents are due to move in the coming weeks.
“We’re thrilled Lady Colin Campbell could do the honours,” says Georgina Gamble. “She has a strong sense of style and we’re delighted with her reaction to what we’ve created here. People want to have a beautiful yet homely and comfortable place to live and from the feedback we received on the day, that’s what we’ve achieved. In fact, we exceeded everyone’s expectations.”
