A care home in Devon that goes out of its way to promote the independence and wellbeing of people living with dementia has been rated 'outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection in May.
Inspectors rated Sefton Hall, in Plantation Terrace, Dawlish 'outstanding' for being effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led and 'good' for being safe.
Sefton Hall is registered to provide accommodation for up to 49 people needing personal and nursing care. There were 42 people living in the home at the time of the inspection.
Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, says: “We found that Sefton Hall has a strong commitment to achieving positive outcomes for people living with dementia. The ethos of the home is intended to make people feel valued and supported with an aim to enhance the quality of their life.
“The layout and furnishing has been designed to promote the independence and
wellbeing of people who live with dementia. People who like to move around are encouraged to use communal areas throughout the building, with areas set up as a pub or kitchen or even a shed, where people could relax.
“To receive an 'outstanding' rating overall is a real achievement, and I would like to congratulate all the staff for the work they do in providing an 'outstanding' service to the people in their care.”
