A growing Berkshire care provider is taking an innovative approach to how care is provided in the community and celebrating after being accredited as a Living Wage employer.
Slough based seakr give carers the freedom and flexibility to take control of their own care career, with the support of a large network of community carers.
The new Living Wage commitment will ensure all seakr carers are encouraged to set their own rates at a minimum hourly wage of £8.45, significantly higher than the national minimum wage of £7.20 for over 25s.
Calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’ for the UK, the decision about what to include in this standard is set by the public; it is a social consensus about what people need to make ends meet.
Living Wage Foundation director, Katherine Chapman says: “We are delighted to welcome seakr to the Living Wage movement as an accredited employer.
“The best employers are voluntarily signing up to pay the Living Wage now. The Living Wage is a robust calculation that reflects the real cost of living, rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay.”
Ian Rajan, founder of seakr, comments: “Our commitment to becoming a Living Wage employer fits perfectly with our organisational values. We want our seakr carers to enjoy their flexible career in care, setting their own hours, pay and workload.
“We are building a large community network of carers, who are able to support each other and provide a much needed service to the local area.”
