Home comforts key for travelling Centenarian

An Alexandria woman has celebrated her 100th birthday in the home town she always returns to from her global travels.

Marion Wright, a tenant at Bield’s Bridge Court development, put her longevity down to enjoying life’s little things in moderation throughout a life spent visiting the corners of the world.

Born and raised in Alexandria, Marion married in the town before the end of the war and husband, Arthur, whom she was with for 53 years, was moved overseas.

She later visited the battlefields where Arthur fought while travelling abroad.

Marion’s son, Jackie, says: “My mum has spent a lot of time travelling to Europe, the US and Canada but always finds her way back to her hometown. Even globe-trotters need a home to return to!”

In spite of a stint working at the J&B bottling factory in the town, Marion is not a big drinker, attributing her good health to being balanced in life.

Jackie adds: “Though my mum was with J&B until she retired, I’ve certainly never seen her go overboard – she’s very much a social drinker.

“All things in moderation is definitely her motto when it comes to a tipple.”

Marion celebrated this milestone with family and friends at the local social club and later at Bridge Court for an afternoon tea.

Jackie Giulianotti, manager at Bridge Court, says: “Everyone at the development loves Marion and we’d like to say a big congratulations!

“We are all thrilled we were able to be a part of this significant occasion in Marion’s life.”
