The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by St John’s Court, in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, to be 'outstanding' overall following an inspection in November.
St John's Court is registered to provide accommodation and nursing care for up to 42 people who have nursing needs.
Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care.
Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. St John’s Court was rated 'outstanding' overall, 'outstanding' for being caring, responsive and well-led and 'good' for being safe and effective.
Acosia Nyanin, CQC’s head of inspection for adult social care in the central region says: “Our inspection team were really impressed by the level of care and support observed at St John’s Court.
“There was a warm, homely atmosphere and staff cared for people with kindness, patience and understanding. Staff had time to meet people's needs and spent time having conversations with people individually without rushing.
“There was a sense this was people's home and it was obvious residents were proud of where they lived. People were supported to actively use their skills and interests to help decorate the environment, which included the garden and the creation of a pub.
“People were supported to retain an active presence in the local community and to maintain their personal interests and hobbies. An activities team alongside care staff worked together to organise an exciting programme, whereby people were offered different things to do.
“The management team and staff shared common values about the aims and objectives of the service people were provided. These were based around people being supported to live the best lives as possible.
“Regular quality audits and checks were completed so improvements were continually recognised to ensure people lived in a high quality home.
“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated 'outstanding'.”
