A retirement housing development in Haddington is looking for a volunteer to provide valuable computing support for its tenants.
Bield’s The Butts development is looking for a volunteer who will be involved in the popular ‘Silver Surfer’ project, which helps tenants get to grips with modern technology, enabling them to become more confident with laptops, smartphones and general computing skills.
This will help to provide a new way for many of the tenants to keep in touch and up to date with friends and families, as well as enabling them to quickly and easily order a supermarket shop online from the comfort of their own home or browse the internet at their leisure.
Manager at The Butts, Kate Donohue says, “This project is important as it teaches out tenants new skills and assists them in remaining involved and independent which is vital to Bield’s ‘Free to Be’ ethos.
“Our tenants are a friendly and enthusiastic bunch and anyone who was willing to contribute a little of their free time to share their talents with them would be opening them up to a whole new digital world.
“The volunteer Silver Surfer Tutors are a valuable asset to Bield and the positive feedback we have already received about our tutors proves that the project is incredibly beneficial for our tenants.”
Please visit jobs.bield.co.uk and complete the online application or alternatively contact Kate Donohue on 01620 825 178 for further information. Enquiries are welcome from people of all ages over 16. Full training and support will be given and out-of-pocket expenses will be paid. A minimum commitment of six months is required.
