Housing 21 celebrates topping out for Oxfordshire Extra Care scheme

Housing 21 has held a topping out ceremony for its Fern Meadows Extra Care development in Faringdon, Oxfordshire.

The leading national provider of retirement living and Extra Care housing was joined by representatives from Osbornes Quantity Surveyors, Quattro Design Architects ,and Deeley Construction.

Fern Meadows will provide 60 modern apartments available to rent or buy through shared ownership. The scheme will provide the assurance of on-site care for residents if and when they need it. The development has been supported with over £5.13 m of Homes England grant funding.

Residents will benefit from a wide range of communal facilities, including a communal lounge, activity room, laundry, health suite, and guest room. Additional facilities will be available for use by the wider local community, including a café and hair salon. The scheme is forecast to open in the autumn.

Bridget Faughnan-Bing, director of development and delivery at Housing 21 said: “Working in partnership with both Deeley and Osbornes, we’re delighted to have reached this important milestone for our development Fern Meadows. The 60-unit scheme will provide much needed affordable housing for local people over the age of 55, and we look forward to welcoming our first residents to their new home in early autumn 2025.”

Steve Turner, construction director at Deeley Construction, said: “This is our fourth development in partnership with Housing 21 and this event marked a great opportunity to celebrate the all-electric, low-carbon scheme reaching its highest point. Fern Meadows will be providing important Extra Care housing in Faringdon and will be a valuable addition to the community when it’s completed. Work is progressing well on-site, and we look forward to joining our partners again to celebrate completion later this year.”
