Continuing to pave the sustainable way in social care

Joanne Balmer BEM, CEO of carbon neutral care group Oakland Care, explores the recent successes the provider has had in driving sustainability forward as part of its renewed ambitions for the future

In my last article for The Care Home Environment back in July 2022, I discussed Oakland Care’s journey to becoming the UK’s first carbon neutral care home group, a monumental milestone that was symbolic of our collective efforts as a provider to combat climate change.

Since then, the climate crisis has sadly, but unsurprisingly, escalated further. An unprecedented number of shocking disasters have rocked countries and communities, not least the wildfires in North America, while a number of countries have also recorded their highest temperatures to date, in a clear sign of the unabating urgency for the world to tackle this issue.

Against this backdrop, our determination to play our part in tackling this issue has remained steadfast. We are committed champions for the social care sector and its power to make a real difference towards this multi-generation cause.
