West Devon care home sold for first time in 40 years

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has announced the sale of Springfields Residential Home in Bridestowe, West Devon.

Springfields occupies a former rectory in the West Devon village of Bridestowe, which sits on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. The home has been owned by Stephen and Kathy Byrne since the late 1980s, over which time it has been significantly improved, modified, and extended to provide high-quality accommodation for up to 34 residents.

Stephen and Kathy decided to sell Springfields to pursue their retirement. Following a confidential sales process with Simon Harvey at Christie & Co, the home has been purchased by an existing local operator for an undisclosed price.

Simon Harvey, senior director – healthcare at Christie & Co, said: “We are delighted to have been able to facilitate Stephen and Kathy’s retirement and, at the same time, assist the buyers with the growth of their business. Springfields is an excellent home that Stephen and Kathy can be rightly proud of, and we wish the buyers every continued success with the home.

“This sale is yet another example of the demand we are continuing to see for quality care homes across the South West, which has been the case for some time with indications currently suggesting that this is likely to continue as we move through the remainder of this year and, most probably, beyond.”
