Innovative startup Bide aims to prevent night time falls

The new Bide device has been designed to reduce the risk of falls by playing a pre-recorded voice message from a loved one, as well as providing a low-level light, when the user sits up in bed or switches on their bedside light.

The main focus of Bide is falls prevention rather than falls detection. Bide intervenes to reduce the risk of falls when a person is most at risk. Bide does not require Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and is able to function in areas without reliable internet access. Bide does not store data and there are no GDPR issues. Bide is particularly suitable for use in care homes, and other social care facilities, housing association residents, and for those living independently.

Bespoke messages can address any specific issues which the user may have, such as a reminder to use a stick/frame or a reminder to press their alert button to summon support from carers. This builds in a delay to allow reorientation to surroundings and physical issues such as low blood pressure to accommodate to the change of position.
