An extension at Housing 21’s Diamond Court extra care scheme has been completed, providing 20 new homes in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset.
The 20-apartment-extension expands the Diamond Court scheme to 73 one- and two-bedroom homes. The new one-bedroom apartments are available for social rent and will be prioritised for people over the age of 55 with a care or support need.
The extension has been delivered by Housing 21, a national leading provider of retirement living and extra care, in partnership with North Somerset Council, Kitto Construction Ltd, O’Leary Goss, and Gardiner & Theobald.
The completion of the extension means residents will be able to live independently with the assurance of an on-site care team providing tailored support, as needed. Residents will also be able to enjoy a range of facilities including an on-site café/bistro, communal lounge, and landscaped gardens.
Deborah Hope, head of development at Housing 21, said: "We are delighted to see that the Diamond Court extension has successfully completed. We're looking forward to welcoming residents to their new homes who will be supported to live independently with access to the impressive on-site communal facilities."
Jamie Lindon-Lewis, head of extra care - central at Housing 21, commented: “Our extra care properties strike a unique balance as they allow residents the freedom to live independently with the peace of mind that an on-site care team brings, if support is required. We can’t wait to start getting everybody settled into their new homes at the already-vibrant Diamond Court.”
Cllr Mike Bell, deputy leader of North Somerset Council, added: “North Somerset Council welcomes this opportunity to expand the capacity of extra care housing in North Somerset.
“Extra care housing is an excellent alternative to home care provision that maximises the independence of individuals with care and support needs and is a key priority to our plans for older person’s housing solutions in North Somerset.”
