Air conditioning: is there a place for AC in care homes?

Making sure that residents feel comfortable is of paramount importance to care home operators. A key aspect of this is getting the temperature right. Here, Phil Cunningham, head of air conditioning & refrigeration at equipment and servicing specialist JLA, tells us more.

What are the biggest myths and misconceptions when it comes to air conditioning?

Firstly, it’s that care home settings don’t need or shouldn’t have air conditioning. These solutions can be beneficial in these settings for a number of reasons, but mainly because the comfort of residents and staff will be enhanced with temperature control all year round.

Another big misconception is that AC can only cools air, when actually it can provide hot air as well. This means you can cool and heat spaces using the same system – so most care homes don’t need to invest in both a boiler and an air conditioning system.
