A Northamptonshire care home has collaborated with an inclusive fitness provider to celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day 2022.
National Senior Health and Fitness Day is celebrated annually on the last Wednesday of May – this year on 25 May. The day is dedicated to improving the health of seniors and helping elderly people stay fit and healthy.
Wellbeing Care’s Meadow View, a home providing residential, nursing, and respite care, collaborated with Gfitness to host a workout session for residents. Gfitness is a leading provider of professional exercise classes to people living in care and people with disabilities, providing fitness-based services to care homes all over the UK.
Wellbeing Care is a family-run group that provides care to older people living in Northamptonshire and Suffolk. Residents at Meadow View took part in the 30-minute exercise class led by Gfitness instructor, Mike Smith. Wellbeing aims to extend the sessions across its services.
Joy Henshaw, registered manager of Wellbeing Care, said: “We believe physical fitness should be enjoyed by everyone, which is why it was imperative we celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day.
“We decided to reach out to Gfitness, the largest provider of exercise services to the UK care sector, to see if they could help us celebrate by providing a fun and interactive fitness session for our residents. The support we received was fantastic – Mike provided a 30-minute session for our residents, who thoroughly enjoyed the class and were beaming for the entire day afterwards.
“After the success of the Gfitness workout, we are now looking to instate fitness initiatives comprising light movement across our other homes to boost residents’ physical and mental wellbeing.”
