apetito has added toasties to its award-winning texture-modified range of care home meals.
Homes can now choose from three classic flavours – puréed hot cheese, puréed hot tuna, and puréed hot bacon – safe in the knowledge that they meet all criteria for IDDSI Level 4 meals. Each has been crafted to look just like the much-loved comfort food.
These new and improved toasties can be cooked from frozen in under 10 mins in the microwave or 30 minutes in the oven and have been specially developed to be enjoyed by residents with dysphagia.
Richard Woodward, general manager of care homes for apetito, said: “We all love a cheese toastie – that melty, oozy, gooey comfort food. And our specialist nutrition team has been working for the last year to develop an improved range which means that care home residents that require a softer diet, can enjoy toasties, which meet all the level four requirements, yet are delicious, nutritious and retain all the attributes of this famous dish.
“Even David Beckham loves a toastie – although it appears his favourite has baked beans as the filling! We haven’t had a big demand for this one yet”.
