The disproportionate impact on care homes from Covid-19 and families holding off on moving relatives into care facilities for fear of their safety has seen the number of care home bed vacancies steadily rise. This has forced many care home closures across the country.
According to care consultancy Carterwood, the occupancy rates at care homes have dropped from 87.3 per cent to just over 79 per cent since the start of the pandemic.
Due to the rise in vacancies, many care providers are looking at alternative plans for future operations, such as at-home patient care where trained care providers work in private homes of elderly patients.
