Boris Johnson will launch a consultation on compulsory vaccinations for care home staff in early April, according to a report.
According to Politico, the Prime Minister will make a statement around 5 April relating to a consultation on making jabs a condition of employment for care home staff.
The Politico report - based on an internal civil service memo – says the consultation will close on 21 May.
The government is considering changing the law by mid-June to ensure all on-site staff except the medically exempt participate in a mandatory inoculation scheme, it adds.
The latest NHS England data shows around 76.6 per cent of staff at elderly care homes in England have received a Covid jab.
Some 93.7 per cent of care home residents received a first dose as of 21 March.
A government spokesman told Politico that no final decisions have been made but a range of issues on Covid status certification are under consideration.
