Legionella training gets accreditation

SOCOTEC, formerly ESG, a provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, has recently been accredited by City & Guilds for Legionella training.

To gain accreditation, SOCOTEC was assessed by an Accreditation External Quality Assurer to ensure they could provide evidence that the training programmes met the City & Guilds quality benchmark criteria. The requirements included: course delivery, the use of quality training and assessment materials, organisation resources, documented quality assurance strategy and procedures, data management and issuing of certificates.

Having met the City & Guilds accreditation requirements, SOCOTEC is proud to hold City & Guilds accreditation for three Legionella training courses. The Responsible Persons training course, held over one day, is client focussed, providing duty holders and those with management responsibilities with essential information on guidance, legislation, risk assessing and the role of the responsible person; ensuring those being trained are fully equipped to manage the Legionella risk on a day to day basis.

The General Awareness Course is run over half a day, providing a basic introduction to Legionella management and control including the legal and technical requirements to ensure water systems are maintained safely. The basic awareness and end user training – a one hour course - is a short but detailed introduction to Legionella management and the importance of usage evaluation and flushing.

The City & Guilds assessor commented: “The organisation has a very well presented training programme, with effective policies and procedures to support this. This meeting was interesting and constructive and the training programme observed was again well presented with the back-up of a good PowerPoint presentation.”

Paul Sear, technical manager, Water Hygiene, SOCOTEC, says: “With our City & Guilds accreditation, customers can be assured of the quality of the training being received, allowing individuals to be suitably trained to manage the risk of Legionella effectively. It is also a great reflection on the quality of our training staff.

SOCOTEC specialises in Legionella risk management, as part of our water hygiene and safety services, to help ensure clients are compliant with their legal requirements. As specialists, our Legionella training courses allow us to share our knowledge with clients as well as raise awareness and understanding around Legionella control.”
