Event held to help tackle loneliness

Staff and residents at a Paisley care home are gearing up to host a free, fun packed event for members from the local community.

Bupa’s Braemount Care Home, on Donaldswood Road, is welcoming those living in the Paisley area to join in its ‘Silver Sunday’ event. Guests will be treated to entertainment, music and bingo with prizes. Head chef Derrick Smartt will also be serving freshly baked cakes and treats during the day.

Silver Sunday is a UK-wide initiative, designed to celebrate older people and the value they bring to a community.  With its open door policy, it’s also hoped that the events will reduce instances of loneliness and social isolation, as older members of the local community are invited to join the fun. Across the UK, more than 70 Bupa care homes will be opening their doors and hosting events.

Stevie Drennan, activity co-ordinator at Bupa’s Braemount care home, says: “We are always keen to get the local community involved in the different events and activities we have going on at the home. The residents always enjoy socialising with the other Paisley locals and sharing stories. And the cake stalls are always a real hit as everyone gets to have a sweet treat and a nice cuppa.

“This the first time we are holding the Silver Sunday event and everyone in the home is really looking forward to it. It’s a great chance to meet with other members of the local community, whether they’re familiar faces or new friends, and I’d encourage everyone to come along – the more the merrier!”
