One Housing expands with extra care scheme

One Housing’s first Season-branded extra care scheme outside London, Rosebank Park, opened in Essex on Thursday 22 June; the £11 million development in Harwich is the first in it’s current wave of expansion into older people’s housing and care outside London.

Rosebank Park offers 70 high quality apartments for local people aged 55 and over who have a care need. Each modern and stylish self-contained apartment features one or two bedrooms, an open plan living, kitchen and dining area, contemporary bathroom and a terrace or balcony.

Residents can also enjoy communal facilities including a residents’ lounge, licensed bar and dining room, mobility scooter store with charging points and private courtyard garden.

Kevin Beirne, Group Director of Housing Care and Support at One Housing, says: “With so much debate about social care around the election, the housing and care sectors should take the lead and show what good looks like.

"Rosebank Park is a great example of a scheme that gives older people a great lifestyle and reduces costs compared to a traditional care home for both the resident and the taxpayer. In Essex we are working closely with the local authority to meet a clear need for homes that help people enjoy their independence with the support of professional care.”

The development was delivered through an innovative partnership between One Housing, Essex County Council, developer Ashley House and funding partner Funding Affordable Homes. Essex County Council supported the development of the scheme with a funding contribution of £1.7 million. The local authority will invest a total of £27 million to help create up to 1,800 new independent living homes to meet demand around the county over the next five years.

The company has plans for two further new Season extra care schemes and six Baycroft care homes outside London. These are in addition to the four Season sites open or nearing completion within the capital.
