A highly rated Cheshire golf club has honoured a local care home resident at a celebratory afternoon tea attended by the club’s chairperson and president.
Sheila Watson from Meridian Healthcare’s Lauren Court care home was invited to join president Sue Bennett at Sandiway Golf Club to reminisce about her successful golfing era.
The 97 year old, who has lived at Lauren Court since 2014, was a member at Sandiway Golf Club for many years winning countless trophies. Sandiway named one of the trophies after Sheila following a three times in a row win.
Sheila was introduced to golf through her father who was also a member at Sandiway. Sheila joined the ladies team and had an impressive handicap of four.
Sheila comments: “I began playing golf at the age of 20. When I joined Sandiway I used to play for the ladies team while my husband played in the men’s team. We never played together!
“I still enjoy playing golf now and I have a putting machine in my bedroom at Lauren Court.”
Sue Bennett, president at Sandiway, adds: “It was a great pleasure to see Sheila again and to reminisce about events and people we both knew when she was a member at Sandiway.”
