A care home in Glasgow has given its residents the perfect place to enjoy a cuppa, with the creation of its own vintage tea room, ‘The Tipsy Teapot.’
Staff at Bupa’s Golfhill Care Home in Dennistoun redecorated and transformed what was previously a spare bedroom into a café area to give residents more communal space in the home.
The Tipsy Teapot – a name that was chosen by the care home’s residents – is kitted out with tables and seats, vintage tea sets and comfy armchairs.
Residents were not only given input on the name but also decided on the décor of the room, choosing a patterned wallpaper adorned with cupcakes and tea sets to add to the theme.
The room was decorated entirely by Golfhill’s staff, with one member of the team even coming in on his day off to put up the wallpaper, and residents’ friends and families kindly donated teapots, cups and saucers.
The space also extends outdoors, with French doors opening out onto a patio with additional seating.
Nancyanne Smith, home manager at Bupa’s Golfhill Care Home, says: “We had previously held a few tea parties which everyone seemed to find great fun, so this inspired us to create ‘The Tipsy Teapot’ as a permanent option.
“The tea room is always open and is a great place for friends and family to spend quality time with their loved ones when they come to visit.
“It provides a nice change of scenery and is a fantastic social space. Our residents now often choose to eat their lunch in the tearoom as they really enjoy the setting – it’s been a real hit!
“The Tipsy Teapot also makes a great place for us all to celebrate special occasions – it recently hosted a very enjoyable birthday tea party.”
