Free dinners for the older community

Staff at Garforth-based care home, Augustus Court, are welcoming hungry guests to their dinner table as they prepare to treat local elderly residents to a free lunch.

As part of a pledge to support those in the community who feel alone or are struggling, Meridian Healthcare’s Augustus Court is offering a nutritious, home cooked meal to members of the community this winter.

Invitations will be extended to mature Garforth residents, as well as their families, to provide companionship and a hot meal during the spring season.

Greeting guests for the course of the week will be Augustus Court’s home administrator, Kim Morris: “We want to welcome older members of the community into our home, as well as offer them a home cooked, fresh hot meal. We host many community events at Augustus Court and are always looking for opportunities to open our doors to new guests.”

With recent figures from Age UK showing that 1.2 million older people in England are chronically lonely, the importance of providing company to the elderly has never been more prominent.
