Ayrshire home scoops three awards

An Ayrshire care home is celebrating after three of its staff members and their house pet won UK-wide awards.

Bupa’s Claremont Care Home, in Whitletts, Ayr, scooped an impressive total of three awards at the annual Bupa Care Home Awards 2016, taking home the Maintenance Team of the Year, Housekeeper of the Year and Pet of the Year plaudits.

Maintenance team Brian Girvan and Jim Faulds were recognised for always going above and beyond in their daily work and in particular for their efforts running a successful gardening club for residents and their relatives and for growing their own fruit and vegetables for the home.

Housekeeper Margaret Murray was honoured for her dedication to getting involved with all home activities and always maintaining the cleanliness of residents’ rooms and of the home in general to the highest standard. Claremont’s pet rabbit, Cream, was named ‘Pet of the Year’ to acknowledge the hugely positive impact he has had on the care home’s residents.

The Care Awards celebrate the stars among Bupa’s care home employees (and pets) from approximately 300 care homes across the UK. The awards recognise individuals and teams who have demonstrated exceptional work, and who go the extra mile to deliver the highest standards of care to residents and support to colleagues.

Speaking of her team’s success, home manager Carol Barr comments: “Ultimately, the driving force behind our work is to improve the quality of life of the people in our care and we are all absolutely thrilled that our efforts are being recognised.

“Brian, Jim and Margaret work so hard to make sure the care home and garden is always looking its very best, and I can’t think of three people more deserving of their award wins.

“I was also delighted that Cream came away with the Pet of the Year award, as he has made such a difference to the residents and also to the children visiting the home. I’m incredibly proud of all the winners – what a fantastic team we have here!

“The satisfaction we gain from this and the extremely positive feedback from the residents is all the thanks we need but to have come away with a total of three awards is really special and we really enjoyed the event in London.”

Kirsty Dace, managing director, Scotland for Bupa Care Services, says: “This is a fantastic result for Claremont. The three Care Awards acknowledge the incredible job that the team does, day in day out, and their constant commitment to the residents and relatives there.

"Everyone here at Bupa is delighted that their dedication has been commended and we’re sure they will have many more successes in the future."
