Since deciding to switch from oil to LPG for its heating system, Champions Place, a family–owned residential home in Surrey, has continued to benefit from cheaper energy bills.
Champions Place has been providing professional care to adults with learning difficulties for over 40 years. The home is located in the village of Limpsfield Chart on the Kent, Surrey and South East London border, and is off the mains gas grid.
It currently provides care for 13 adults. Roger Sparkes, the home’s owner has been working with care homes for over half a century.
“One of the first things you notice about Champions Place is its size. The home sits in six acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, where the residents and their families can enjoy BBQs in the summer – weather permitting,” says Roger.
Comfort is very important to people living in care homes, so the heating system has a big role to play at Champions Place.
Rogers continues: “Champions Place isn’t your average care home. There are three floors, plus a basement, made up of bedrooms, lounges, bathrooms,
kitchens and activity rooms; and that’s a large space to heat.
“Heating is therefore probably the largest expense we have. We had our old oil boilers for 20 years and they were on their way out, so I sourced quotations for oil and LPG, and LPG was cheaper.
“We were already using Calor for cooking because we’re off-grid and electric isn’t as good as gas. It made sense to use Calor to heat the building as well, and we’re very happy with the choice we’ve made.”
Roger Sparkes concludes: “Heating is very important, especially in the winter. Some of our residents are elderly and we don’t want them to get ill in the cold weather.
“When people have been disadvantaged throughout their life, they deserve the necessary support to achieve their wishes, and that’s what we provide.”
