A manager at a Glasgow care home is celebrating after being shortlisted for a prestigious nursing leadership award.
Graham Kelly, general Manager at Bupa’s Hillview Care Home in Clydebank scooped a nomination for the coveted Sue Pembrey Award 2016, which recognises clinical leaders who play a vital role in creating person-centred cultures within which all can flourish.
The Foundation of Nursing Studies (FoNS) – which announces the winners and nominees of the Award - highly commended Graham for his leadership and, in particular, recognised his clear vision for person-centred practice and ways of working where staff, residents and families are all equally important.
Speaking of his success, Graham comments: “Ultimately, the driving force behind my work is to improve the quality of life of the people in my care and I am absolutely thrilled that all my efforts are being recognised.
“At Bupa, our priority is, of course, caring for our residents. At Hillview, we do this by striving to create innovative and inspiring activities to provide them with the best quality of life possible.
“I would also like to acknowledge the continuous learning I gain from the “My Home Life” movement which challenges us as managers to put everyone who lives, works and visits the Care Home at the centre of all that we do. In particular, I want to thank my mentors, Prof Belinda Dewar and Fiona Cook who are tremendous role models for person and relationship centred care.
“The satisfaction I gain from my job and the extremely positive feedback that I receive from the residents and staff is all the thanks I need but to have been nominated for the Sue Pembrey award is a real honour.
“Who knows, next year I may even go on to win it!”
The Sue Pembrey Award 2016 also celebrates leaders who are role models and mentors for staff and who create a workplace where attributes of trust, caring, mutual respect, professional development and ethical behaviour are modelled and supported.
Kirsty Dace, Scottish director for Bupa Care Services, says: “Graham’s award shortlist acknowledges the incredible job he does, day in day out, and his constant commitment to the residents, relatives and staff at Hillview.
"Everyone here at Bupa is delighted that his dedication has been commended and we’re sure he will have many more successes in the future."
